10 female photographers you should be following on Instagram.
So far 2020 has been a crazy year so let’s make it a bit better by following 10 of the most inspirational female photographers on Instagram.
Recently I posted a good few blog posts and I also did a number of interview with well known inspirational photographers from around the world and it was only a few days ago it struck me that there were very few female photographers in the posts.
So I got a bit of a shock at that statistic and wondered how the hell that happened?
In my defense I did ask a number of female photographers if they would like to be interviewed and only two of them ever actually got around to doing the interview. So it actually would have been split about 60% male to 40% female. Ok, so that’s a bit more respectable now at least.
So I put the bit between my teeth and went at it again only this time with more determination than before, I decided that for starters I was going to pop up their instagram feeds and a few of their photographs for starters and maybe get around to interviewing them soon too.
Before we start with any of that let’s just get this out of the way first, for me a photographer is a photographer I don’t assign any gender or race to the role as let’s be honest about it why should any of that make a blind bit of difference. Skill and talent will always be that, gender will never be a part of the equation for me.
So why the blog post title then?
Well because I recently discussed gender discrimination with a friend and I suppose I was more aware of it than usual and looked at everything through other peoples eyes and that’s when I spotted the glaring gap in my interviews and photographers mentions in my feed. So I thought “hey you gotta sort this out a bit”.
So I went looking at a good few of the female photographers on my feed and thought hey there are more than 10 amazing photographers here that need to be highlighted. Yes originally I thought let’s make it the top 10… That shouldn’t be that hard, then I went looking at all the inspirational photographers I follow and I had a job narrowing it down to just 10. Now I should also add I don’t actually follow that many photographers on Instagram as I like my feed to be inspirational and packed with positive high quality images. I am shamefully a bit picky about who I follow. I honestly don’t get the whole follow for follow thing. I follow people to be inspired and to see their beautiful work if they don’t follow me back I honestly don’t care. I should also add that follower count for me is only just a number, a bit like being rich at monopoly. Once you stop playing the game it’s over.
So here goes the list of my top 10 female photographers for you to follow in 2020.
Ps… If I missed someone really good please do let me know in the comments below. I might be adding another 10 yet!!!
