Formatt Hitech Firecrest Cine Superslim Black Supermist diffusion filters review

Formatt Hitech Superslim Black Supermist Diffusion Filters

Superslim Black Supermist diffusion filters and what are they?

The traditional thickness for your standard 4 x 5.65 Cine filter is 4mm but these new Superslim Black Supermist diffusion filters from Formatt Hitech are just 2mm thick so they reduce the weight in your bag and on your gear with no discernable difference in image quality.

The other slight bonus is they are also cheaper than the standard 4mm Cine filters, so you get the same quality and save a bit of money at the same time.

Why would you need the Superslim filters?

The main adavantage of the Superslim filters is of course their weight reduction which means you can use them on a gimbal setup or on a drone while still keeping your weight done as much as possible. This is a huge advantage aready but there’s more to it than that…

Did you know that these filters is that they will fit in the standard 100mm Firecrest Magnetic Filter Holder as they are only 2mm thick. So again if you are travelling light you can bring the 100mm filter holder and the superslims with you and you are still able to shoot professionally.

Adding the Firecrest Ultra Superslim ND filters (review here) into the mix means you can get diffusion and light reduction for the right frame rate all in a very small and light weight package.

I have a full review of the conventional 4mm thick Black Supermist filters here if you would like to know more  about them or watch my video below where I show you them in action.

What Makes The Superslim Black Supermist Diffusion Filters Special?

I have had a prototype of one of these filters for months now and I have had a good chance to not only play with it but to truly test it out and it all comes down to weight versatility and price it’s really as simple as that. These filters are well normal cine filters only a lot lighter and I for one won’t complain about that and neither will my gimbal 🙂

See you out there,

Kieran.
